Baseball Cards For Sale or Trade

1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA 3 1960 Fleer #72 Ted Williams PSA 4
Purchasing. To purchase card(s), send an Email with the cards you would like. I will send you an invoice with the total including shipping and/or insurance.
Trading. As far as trading, I am interested in obscure Fred Lynn, Roger Maris, Jim Piersall, Carlton Fisk, Carl Yastrzemski, Tony Conigliaro, Rocky Colavito issues I don't have. Also I like enjoy collecting vintage cards, with an emphasis on star cards. My favorite teams are the Dodgers and Red Sox. I also am working on a 1962 Post cereal set and I am also partial to 1963 cards (I was born that year). Also I collect 1935 Goudey, 1941 Double Play and 1948 Swell Sport Thrills cards. Of course Hall of Famers like Mantle, Koufax, Williams, Mays, Aaron, etc. I like a saying by an old friend and trader Max Keddy- "I never met a card I didn't like." I feel the same. Send me your (reasonable) trade offers; vintage ONLY! In other words, no newer crap.
Shipping & other details. Shipping is generally $3 for ungraded cards and $4 for graded cards. I offer shipping discounts for multiple purchases. Cards will be sent in a bubble mailer through USPS. Once I have received payment you will receive Delivery Confirmation along with a tracking number. I offer a 7-day return policy on all cards, including graded cards. I accept Bank checks, Money Orders, & Paypal. Personal checks are accepted for most cards. However for higher dollar cards I will only accept Bank Checks, Money Orders, or Paypal w/ confirmed delivery address.
Grading. I use the standard grading scales used by most reputable hobby publications.
Pricing. Prices are mainly from PSA's Sports Market Report (SMR) for graded cards and the annual Sports Collector's Digest Standard Catalog Of Baseball Cards for ungraded cards. Keep in mind that price guides are just that- GUIDES, and some cards because of demand, eye appeal, centering, etc. may be higher or lower than listed prices. I will also accept reasonable offers on some cards. P.S. > Please note that there may be typographical errors and if something seems to good to be true (like a NM 1967 Topps Tom Seaver for five bucks), then it probably is... my apologies for any trauma this may cause you. Also note that I am not a dealer; the cards I sell here are used to purchase other cards for my own collection. Thanks, Tim

Unopened packs. Scarcer than individual cards (vintage) are the wrappers they came in. Most were discarded in the trash (I know that's what I did with them). Even scarcer are unopened pack of cards for obvious reasons. Why would you buy
a pack of baseball cards and not open them? But there have been numerous "finds" of unopened material, including rare 1952 Topps high numbers (which might include a #311 Mickey Mantle, the most desirable post-war baseball card) and
more. Because of the emergence of professional grading services, even vintage unopened packs were opened in the hopes of obtaining high grade cards, which sell for significant premiums. But it is a crap shoot. I remember opening packs of
cards and getting a bunch of duds. Usually. To give you a small example a few years ago I had 3 unopened packs of 1979 Topps baseball cards. I guess I was hoping to get a nicely centered Ozzie Smith rookie card or a Nolan Ryan but
instead I got mostly commons. The only Hall Of Famers I got were Rod Carew and Joe Morgan. No Ozzie, No "Express." Not even my favorite player Fred Lynn. And even the Carew and Morgan cards were not "MINT." Both cards had
centering issues, which are common on vintage Topps cards. On the other hand a collector purchased a pack of 1952 Topps cards (low series) and pulled out a #1 Andy Pafko card that ended up being graded by PSA as GEM MINT 10. So
you can get lucky but guys like me would end up with players with names like Pete Hamm. Now Pete Hamm was not a terrible player, I think he was a pitcher, but in 1972 I had so many Pete Hamm cards I am still traumatized by his name
alone. When we played ball and someone made a error he was called a "Pete Hamm" because it just sucked getting another Pete Hamm card (no offense to Mr. Pete Hamm).
The above 1975 Topps Mini baseball trading cards unopened pack has the possibilities of having a rookie card of George Brett, Gary Carter, Jim Rice, or Gary Carter. Also included in packs were established stars like Hank Aaron, Bob
Gibson, Harmon Killebrew, Tom Seaver, etc. I don't remember getting any of those cards out of a pack but I DO remember getting plenty of Von Joshua cards. The 1975 Topps Mini cards are identical to the regular '75 Topps cards except for
the card size. They were a test issue and are very popular today. Vintage unopened packs from the 1970's are readily more available than 1960's and 1950's. Pre-war unopened packs are extremely rare.
Among the most popular regional sets are these Bell Brand Los Angeles Dodgers cards from 1958, 1960-62. The 1960-1962 Bell Brand cards are very similar in appearance, beautiful full color cards with
high gloss finish. The backs say "If It's Bell...It's Swell!!!" along with the Dodger home game schedule for the year. The 1958 Bell Brand Dodgers are the scarcest of the Bell Brand Dodgers cards. They have sepia
photos with a " wood frame" bordering the picture. This was the first year of the Dodgers in Los Angeles and the cards featured Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider and more. The 1960-62
Bell Brand cards included the next generation of Dodger stars like Willie Davis, Don Drysdale, Sandy Koufax, Maury Wills and other Dodger stars of the era. Bell Brand also produced a scarce Los Angeles Rams
set in both 1959 and 1960. "If it's Bell...it's Swell!!!" For more on the Dodgers, both Brooklyn and LA, see our DODGERS PAGE!

1971 O-Pee-Chee #513 Nolan Ryan 1974 Topps #20 Nolan Ryan 1980 O-Pee-Chee #303 Nolan Ryan
|
Here are 3 of my favorite 1970 to 1980 Nolan Ryan cards. The 1971 O-Pee-Chee #513 Nolan Ryan (above left) is identical to the Topps card except for the back, which is yellow (Topps has a dark green
card back). The card stock on the O-Pee-Chee cards is also different and O-Pee-Chee cards are sometimes found with slight to moderate "rough" cuts on the edges. The O-Pee-Chee cards are much scarcer than the
regular Topps cards. The 1974 Topps #20 Nolan Ryan (above, center) shows him at his peak with the California Angels (he threw 4 no-hitters with the Angels). O-Pee-Chee also produced a scarcer Nolan Ryan
card in 1974. The 1980 O-Pee-Chee #303 Nolan Ryan is different from the Topps card in that the card number is different (#303, compared to #580 on the Topps card) and note the O-Pee-Chee card has
"Now With Astros" printed on the card front (the Topps card does not). While the O-Pee-Chee shows Ryan's new team as being the "Astros," the Topps card, printed before Ryan's Free Agent signing, shows him still
with the Angels. Note the slight "rough cut" on the right edge of the card (it did not affect the MINT 9 grade by PSA). Other notable Ryan cards from the '70's include 1970 Topps #712 (high number!), 1972 Topps
#595 (his first card as a California Angel and features an amateur "airbrush" job on Ryan's cap), and 1975 Topps (or O-Pee-Chee) #500 (tough in high grade due to the colored borders). Most of Ryan's 1990's
cards can easily be found in high grades but finding true "MINT" copies from the 1970's Topps and O-Pee-Chee issues is almost as impossible as hitting a 100 mph Ryan fastball! For more on Nolan Ryan or the
Angels, check out our ANGELS PAGE!

1975 Hostess Twinkies #130 Hank Aaron
Henry Aaron to most is still regarded as the All-Time HR King. I have to agree. The steroid era produced some inflatable statistics that just are too incredible to overlook. As a result you will see many players with
what used to be "for sure" Hall of Fame stats that will not be getting an invitation from Cooperstown. Take for instance Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmiero, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, etc. They might
eventually get in, but in the meantime some of them will be waiting by the phone waiting for a phone call that may never come. Don't feel pity for them. Feel pity for guys like Hank Aaron and Roger Maris, who's
records were broken (in some cases multiple times) by, in effect, cheaters. Hank Aaron had to endure real racism during his playing career, and Maris had to compete with icon Mickey Mantle in New York during
that historic 1961 season. The players today are guaranteed millions of dollars per season so why is there such a high number of them taking performance enhancing drugs? To me it is all about the ego's of these
guys. How much money do you really need? So the real incentive must be fame. It's ironic that these same players who desire fame are not going to get in the HALL OF FAME. I hope the Baseball Writers who vote
for the Hall of Fame continue to shun these tainted players. It would be a strong deterrent to keep anything like this from happening again.
1963 Fleer Baseball Checklist SP card (unnumbered)
Checklists are somewhat overlooked. They were meant to be checked off as you worked on your set of cards. Because of this, plus the fact that checklists were handled frequently, finding vintage checklists in high
grades can be challenging. The above 1963 Fleer Baseball Checklist card (unnumbered) is a scarce short print. This is one of the few examples of a checklist card being valued at more than any other card
in the set (there were only 66 numbered player cards in the '63 Fleer set). According to the 2009 Sports Collector's Digest Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, this checklist lists for $300 in ungraded NM
condition! Compare that to the highest valued card in the set, card number 42 Sandy Koufax, which lists for $100 in NM.
The 1963 Fleer baseball set was stopped short after the first series. A lawsuit by Topps Chewing Gum put an end to Fleer's plans for a larger set. However this small set is much easier to complete than the Topps
set (Topps 1963 set has 576 cards) and thus more affordable. The set features 10 Hall of Fame players: Brooks Robinson, Willie Mays, Carl Yastrzemski, Don Drysdale, Sandy Koufax, Warren Spahn, Roberto
Clemente, Bill Mazeroski, Bob Gibson and Orlando Cepeda. Also featured are some players who should be in the HOF: Ron Santo, Maury Wills, and Ken Boyer. Jim Piersall (card 29) should be in the Hall of
Fame for just being... Jimmy Piersall!!! (See our Jimmy Piersall Page for more on this colorful character). There are two short printed cards, Joe Adcock (#46) and the unnumbered checklist card. The only major
bummer is the lack of a Mickey Mantle card or maybe a Pete Rose rookie card, but regardless this is a very undervalued set. Like the Topps cards, the Fleer cards also suffered with some quality control issues,
namely centering. Also the Fleer packs contained a cookie which sometimes left stains on some of the cards (Topps had similar issues with it's gum and wax packs). High graded examples by reputable grading
services sell for a premium.

1973 O-Pee-Chee Mets and Dodgers Team cards
Here are a couple obscure cards. In 1973 and 1974 Topps (and their Canadian counterpart "O-Pee-Chee") issued these team checklist cards. The 1973 team checklists have blue borders, while the
1974 cards have red borders. They fronts feature facsimile signatures (probably copied from signed Topps baseball card contracts) and the backs feature a team checklist. The cards are unnumbered and
are relatively inexpensive. It's interesting to note the signatures compared to most of today's athletes. You can just about read every one of these autographs, while today's stars are satisfied with a couple
of "scribble" lines that are unreadable. Check out the above Mets team checklist (above left). You can make out Cleon Jones, Jerry Koosman, Tom Seaver, and newly acquired outfielder Willie Mays in his
final big league season. The Dodgers card features the Dodgers I grew up watching: Don Sutton, Manny Mota, Steve Garvey, Bill Russell, Bill Buckner, etc. These undervalued cards are a great bargain;
you can pick them up for a few bucks or less. The O-Pee-Chee cards are much scarcer as they were issued in Canada, so they might sell for a bit higher than the Topps cards. Either way they are terrific
collectibles of your favorite teams!

1959 Topps #509 Norm Cash (Rookie card)
Newer card collectors may not be familiar with the term "High Numbers." What are high numbers? In the days when cards were issued in series throughout the year, usually the last series of cards
were produced in lesser quantities than the previous series. This is because the baseball season was winding down (or was finished) and fans began to get geared up for the next sports season (football,
basketball, hockey, etc.). So sales would diminish as well. Topps learned this lesson early on. In 1952 they were left with a large quantity of "high numbers" that were not sold and these were dumped
into the Atlantic Ocean. This accounts for the scarcity of the high numbered series in 1952, including the first Topps card of Mickey Mantle (card number 311), which is the most sought after post war
baseball card. So usually the last series of cards are generally referred to as "high numbers." They are also usually more expensive than earlier series as they are much more difficult to come by. The
scarcest high numbered series are the 1952 Topps high numbers (#311-401) with "commons" selling for around $135 each in ungraded EX (mid-grade) condition. Higher grade cards will sell for
significantly more, especially if graded by a reputable 3rd party grading service (currently Becketts, PSA, or SGC). In 2006, a high graded 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle (PSA 9 MINT) sold for
$282,588! That can buy a nice house in most states!
In 1974 Topps began issuing all the cards at the same time, alleviating the "high numbers." So generally, high numbered series are found on 1952-1973 Topps baseball cards. The above 1959
Topps #509 Norm Cash is an example of a high number. While most "common" 1959 high numbers list for $22 in graded NM condition, this Norm Cash lists for $75 in the same grade. Why?
Because Norm Cash was a star for the Detroit Tigers (he won the AL Batting Crown in 1961 and hit 377 career home runs), plus this is his "rookie card" and a scarce "high number." Hall of Fame
pitcher Bob Gibson was also included in the 1959 Topps high numbered series (card number 514) and is one of the more expensive cards in the set (lists for $250 in a PSA 7 NM holder). High
numbered cards today present a challenge for vintage set collectors.

1959 Fleer Ted Williams #58 "1957 - Williams Hits .388"
Star players, usually Hall of Fame members, command premiums over "common" cards. This is the way things are. When you bought a pack of gum cards, you wanted to pull a Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays,
Hank Aaron card, not (no offense) Pete Hamm, Dooley Womack or Willie Miranda. I remember in 1975 trying to get my favorite Dodgers stars like Steve Garvey, Don Sutton, etc. and instead getting guys like
Von Joshua and Joe Blow. This was the fun of ripping open a pack of cards. So your big name players are going to command top dollar. There are some affordable alternatives. While most vintage Ted Williams
baseball cards from his playing days are a few hundred dollars apiece in ungraded NM condition, you can buy a 1959 Fleer Ted Williams card for around ten bucks in ungraded NM condition. In 1959
Fleer signed Williams to an exclusive contract so there are no Topps Ted Williams cards from 1959-1961. If you wanted a Ted Williams card from those years you had to buy Fleer. The 1959 Fleer set was
devoted entirely to Teddy Ballgame. In both 1960 and 1961 Fleer included a Ted Williams card in their "Baseball Greats" series. These are also affordable, selling for about $50 each in ungraded NM
condition. For more on Ted Williams and other Red Sox greats, check out our RED SOX PAGE!
This is just a great looking card, showing Williams picture perfect swing in action. In 1957 the great Williams hit an incredible .388 (led league) with 38 HRs and 87 RBIs in only 420 at-bats. He had 96 runs
scored and walked his usual 100 times (119). He finished 2nd in AL MVP balloting behind Mickey Mantle. All of this at the age of 38 and without the aid of PEDs (performance enhancing drugs). In his final
season, Williams batted .316 with 29 HRs, including a HR in the final at bat of his career! Amazing! There will never be another Ted Williams.
1939-1946 Salutations Exhibit Joe DiMaggio
Another heavy hitter with collectors is the great Joe DiMaggio. Because of World War II there were no major baseball card sets issued from 1942-1946. That is 6 years of no Joe DiMaggio, Stan
Musial, or Ted Williams cards. Thanks to Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago we have these postcard size cards of these players during these lean years. Exhibit cards were issued in vending
machines for a penny. The above 1939-1946 (actually issued into the 1950's) Joe DiMaggio Exhibit card is called "Salutation Exhibit" as the front will have a facsimile greeting and signature from the
player. Exhibit cards were issued in different formats from 1921 through 1963. Some had postcard backs, 4-on-1 (four players on one card), statistics on back and blank back cards. Most are sepia
toned but some are also color tinted. While most vintage cards of Joe DiMaggio sell for hundreds, even thousands of dollars apiece, the above Exhibit card of "Joltin' Joe" sells for $75 in ungraded EX
condition and $45 in VG condition. That is pretty cheap for a vintage Joe DiMaggio card from his playing days. Check out the "MADE IN U.S.A." in the lower right corner of the card. Those days are
over my friends. I went into a J.C. Penny department store and saw a cool "Captain America" T-shirt and wouldn't you know the shirt was made in some 3rd world country, probably in a "sweat shop."
We can't even make shoes here anymore, or automobiles for that matter. I think baseball cards are still printed here but the inks and printing presses I am sure are from Japan or somewhere else.
What a world and God help us.
1960 Topps #50 Al Kaline PSA 4 VG-EX
1955 Bowman Baseball Wax Pack (Unopened)
While modern unopened packs can be almost given away (especially during the hobby explosion in the late 1980's to today), vintage unopened packs are very scarce. As you can imagine, most packs were
ripped open by excited kids. Back then cards were not "worth" anything, except for sentimental value. Kids were trying to find their favorite players or complete sets. Now that vintage cards are worth money
(including antiques, vintage toys, memorabilia, etc.) most think that it is better to keep the cards (toys, etc.) still in the original packaging in the hopes that they will be worth substantial amounts of money in the
future. Usually this is not the case. You can find modern packs of baseball cards from the 1980's, 1990's, 2000's quite easily. In fact they are not rare at all because number one, the card makers printed
zillions of packs, zillions of cards. Second, a lot of "speculators" had the same thought of preserving the cards in cases, boxes, and packs in the hopes that they would somehow be "treasures" like the vintage
cards. Well here is the difference. Today's cards are generally made in MINT condition. Vintage cards had all kinds of issues; centering, print defects, etc., even right out of the pack. Hence it is very rare to find
a true "MINT" vintage baseball card. So right off the bat you have a ton of newer MINT condition cards. Not scarce at all except the "limited" print runs on certain cards to create interest in buying the product.
Now cards are immediately put in protective sleeves or holders, or slabbed forever by 3rd party grading services. So there is no shortage of modern cards while there is a shortage of vintage cards, especially
in high grades. Do you see where I am going here? Supply and demand. Vintage cards are in shorter supply, hence a strong demand. Modern cards have an unlimited supply, with minimal demand. Anyway it
is great to see these old packs when they pop up occasionally. This 1955 Bowman wax pack was from Bowman Gum's final baseball card set. The 1955 Bowman cards featured a "TV" set design with
brown "woodgrained" borders. TV was in it's heyday back then and Bowman's 1955 effort is today considered a "classic." Bowman was bought out by Topps thereby creating a bubble gum card monopoly
for Topps that lasted 25 years.

In 1955, Topps issued their baseball set in a "horizontal" format. They did it again in 1960, though this was the last time they were to do the entire set in such a format. The 1960 Topps baseball cards
featured a large color picture along with a smaller black and white "in action" shot. These cards are quite colorful. The backs did not include complete career statistics, thought they did have the previous season
stats (1959). Also Topps included season highlights for each player and a cartoon image of the player on the card backs. One or more of the series included both white and gray cardboard stock (similar to the
1956 and 1959 Topps cards) but there seems to be no premium for either version. To me these cards are a great opening set for the 1960's. The only 1960's Topps cards (in my opinion) to top this set are the
1963 and 1967 Topps cards.
1969 Topps #650 Ted Williams MG 1971 Topps #380 Ted Williams MG 1976 Topps #347 All Time All-Stars Ted Williams
While most Ted Williams cards during his playing days are expensive, an affordable alternative are Williams' 1969-1972 Topps cards, which picture "The Splendid Splinter" as a manager of the Washington
Senators/ Texas Rangers. I just picked up this 1971 Topps #380 Ted Williams (PSA 7 NM; above center) for $14; which to me is a bargain (a PSA 7 lists for $20). All of these Ted Williams manager cards can
be had in ungraded NM condition for $15 or less. Even cheaper are any of the Senators/Rangers Team cards from 1970-1973 which picture Manager Ted Williams as well. These can be had for as low as a
couple bucks! The last appearance of Ted Williams as a manager is on the 1973 Topps #7 Texas Rangers Team card. Topps also produced a special "Sporting News All-Time All-Stars" subset in their 1976
baseball set; card #347 features Williams from his playing days (above right). It lists for about $10 in ungraded NM condition.

Trivia Answer for the question, "Who was the first baseball player to make $1,000,000 per season?
Answer: Nolan Ryan, when he signed as a Free Agent for the Houston Astros prior to the 1980
baseball season.
1975 Topps Mini #200 1962 MVPs (Mickey Mantle, Maury Wills)
Can't afford a vintage Mickey Mantle card from his playing days? No problem. In 1975, Topps produced a special Most Valuable Player subset, reproducing cards of all the MVPs from 1951 to 1974. In fact
Topps actually had to create new "cards" for some of the players as Topps did not issue cards of some of the MVPs. For instance, Topps did not produce a card of Maury Wills until 1967. Wills had been in the
Tiger's minor league organization and Topps thought Wills would not make the cut as a big leaguer. So they did not sign him to a card contract. Of course this was a huge mistake and it took a lot of "greasing" to
get Wills on a Topps bubble gum card. So on this 1975 Topps #200 1962 MVPs Mickey Mantle & Maury Wills card, they had to "create" a 1962 "card" for Wills. Mantle, on the other hand, did have
a 1962 Topps baseball card (his regular card is number 200) and it is expensive in high grades. Even in EX condition, it will probably cost about $125-$150. But you can pick up a nice NM or better 1975
Topps #200 1962 MVPs Mickey Mantle (with Maury Wills) for less than $10. Being that Mickey Mantle won 3 MVPs, he is pictured on three different 1975 MVP cards. Topps also produced a "Mini" card set
and O-Pee-Chee cards (Topps cards issued in Canada); these are a bit harder to find than the regular Topps cards.
